2 May 2020 – First walk after Lockdown
Saturday 2 May
After six weeks confined to
the house we are finally allowed to leave together to take a walk. Because Parcent has less than 5000 people we
are allowed to walk when we like between 0600 and 2300. It also seems that we are not restricted to
one hour, as originally notified. So
far so good. BUT, we must not further
than 1Km from Parcent. Clearly this
rules out a lot of options, but is fine if you like walking in wide circles.
Despite this it was lovely to
be able to leave the house together at 1000 this morning. We opted to do our regular summer early
morning walk from the house. This is a
circular walk of 3km, and normally takes about 50 minutes. Fortunately it is within 1km of the house.
This is quite a well known
walk, and also quite a popular one. So
on the first day the village was allowed to go out for a walk we rally expected
it to be pretty busy. So we were really
surprised to pass hardly anyone. We
passed two couples walking together, and one lady on her own taking
photographs, but that was it.
It was a very hot morning with
temperatures of 30c, so though quite a short walk it was quite enough for
us. Very enjoyable, and looking forward to trying
another option tomorrow.
Sunday 3 May
We usually do the housework
each Sunday morning, but we couldn’t resist another walk today. We went cross country towards Murla, and the
freedom and lovely weather was quite something else. However it was very hot once again, and it
felt very similar to one of our summer walks, which we did last June and
September.
Lovely morning and we returned
tired enough to enjoy a lazy afternoon
Monday 4 May
There is a lot of confusion
about what happens next. At present we
are in what is called phase 0. Phase 1
is due to start next Monday, but it is very unclear what will be included in
it. A summary was published last Friday,
but already is has changed considerably.
And throughout the day we hear of new things added and others
removed.
Spain has a minority
government. It wants to extend the
lockdown for another two weeks, but with some easing of the restrictions. However the opposition is refusing to approve
any extension of the emergency powers.
If they get their way we will return overnight to the February
conditions. This would cause chaos, and
surely will not happen.
But it’s clearly going to be a
difficult week ahead. We plan to just
keep our heads down, do our daily walks from the house and try to enjoy the
sudden arrival of summer weather.
Tuesday 5 May
We were out early for our walk
today. The summer temperatures
continue, and we find an hour walk is quite long enough. It feels more like the summer walks we did
last June and September, rather than early May. I am not sure how we would have managed our
five and six hour walks in this heat.
Much as we enjoy our daily
walks, we have decided to do them on alternate days. I think we have slowed down during lockdown,
much as we do during the hot summer months.
Because we are finding it difficult to do all the chores, blogs and our
daily wargame plus walk. Also it is so
hot walking that when we return home we just want a shower and watch TV with
the blinds down.
