24 September – Summer Walk - Lliber Circular

Seven of us today, we had two cancellations yesterday

We had planned to walk from Jalon to Lliber zoo, which would have taken 3.5 hours

However Tanya, who can’t walk due to foot injury, invited us to call in for coffee and cake

The weather has been very hot this week, and the walk would have taken at least 4 hours

So I decided to start the walk in Lliber, which would make it about 2.5 hours

It was very pleasant when we set off from Lliber, about 24c

We made such good time that we stopped at the zoo

But we still arrived at Tanya’s house earlier than expected

Tanya and James have done a lot of hard manual work to improve the villa

We did not see it before they started work, but the end result is a lovely home with spectacular views

Thanks to Joanne for this photo of Jan and I

Tanya presented two lovely cakes, which were much appreciated

We spent about an hour there, and it was difficult to get doing again

It was very hot on the last stage, and the cold drinks in Lliber square very welcome

17 September – Summer Walk - Parcent to Alcalali

Nine of us today, we had a late cancellation this morning

There was a lot of girl power on today's walk

Great to see Steve and Lynn for the first time since lockdown

Not so nice to see he had brought his whistle with him

He used it on every opportunity, except when a car was approaching and he should have used it

Also nice to see Helen again, but missed Roger who was supervising builders

Just after our banana break at Alcalali we lost Tanya

She has a foot injury from too much training during lockdown

It flared up and she had to leave the group to make her way back to the cars

Thanks to Jo who offered to go with her.

So it was a smaller group who tackled the new second half of this walk

This was one of the recce we did in June and is a nice alternative way back to Parcent

It was overcast all morning, but fortunately no rain during the walk

It was also considerably cooler than last week, though humid in parts

Time taken – 3 hours

Distance – 9 km

Total Ascent – 320 metres

Temperature – 24c

10 September – Summer Walk - Isbert Dam

Our second summer walk was from Tormos to Isbert Dam

Nine of us today, including Jose, Berend and their son Bas

Once more we were restricted to a maximum of ten

I had to turn down a new couple, because they would have taken us to eleven

Once more we had to wear our face masks walking through the village

It was not too bad at the start, when the temperature was about 20c

But more uncomfortable on the return journey, when it was about 28c

Half of the group did a detour to see the dam itself

That is why the walk was half an hour longer than planned

The heat and the scramble to the dam also made me feel a little faint

Fortunately Jo had a high energy drink which sorted me out

Everyone was very concerned, but need not have worried

And perhaps a little relieved as I was the only one who knew the way back

It has happened once before, and again on a very hot day

It reminds us how careful you have to be with both the weather and the terrain

Despite that incident both Jan and I really enjoyed the walk

It’s nice to be able to chat and just enjoy the good company

And the heat made us appreciate the long cold drink at the bar at the end of the walk

Time taken – 3.5 hours

3 September 2020 – Summer Walk - Jalon to Alcalali

Our first group walk since lockdown in March

It was one of our shorter summer walks

We were very lucky with the weather, between 21-26c

Until last week it had been 30-36c for months

It rained on Sunday, and since then we have had lower pleasant temperatures

The current restrictions mean we can only have 10 on each walk

No problem this week, that was the number that wanted to walk

We also had to wear masks in the village

But fortunately not in the campo

We tried to exercise strict social distance of 1.5 metres

But with so much news to catch up on, that was difficult to maintain

Very enjoyable walk, and looking forward to next week
