1 May 2020 – Lockdown Day 50

29 April 2019 – Col de Rates

Wednesday 29 April
It seems likely that we will be allowed to leave the house to walk and exercise from Saturday.  But we are still waiting for more details of how often, how long and how far.

A programme, but not a timetable, has been released for coming out of lockdown.   The first stage is planned for Monday 4 May, when dentists and hairdressers will be able to open for appointments.   Once more there are no details, and no one even tries to answer the questions raised.  For example at present you can only drive to go for essential shopping or medical appointments.  Will dentists and hairdressers now be added, or will we have more freedom to use the car

Jan had a telephone call from her hairdresser in Jalon this afternoon.   She is ringing clients to try to set up appointments.   But Jan declined as she is not yet ready for such personal treatment.   Having been locked up for seven weeks, and having no contact at all with anyone other than our immediate neighbours, the prospect of going somewhere so public is quite challenging.   And being up close and personal with someone who is doing the same with any number of strangers not something we are ready for yet.

I am sure that we will not be alone in this attitude.  And I suspect that hair dressers will find it quite difficult to fill their appointment books.

Thursday 30 April
The long awaited details of the permission to walk outside the house has finally been released

We heard about it on Facebook at 8pm last tonight.   As expected two adults from the same household can walk together for one hour each day and must remain within one kilometer of the house.   It was the timings that caused confusion:

14 years and older 0600 to 1000 and 2000 to 2300
Dependant adults 1000 to 1200 and 1900 o 2000
Younger than 14 years old 1200 to 1900

No idea what “dependant adults” might mean, but it was suggested that it would apply to anyone over 70 years old.

It would be nice to be able to check with the town hall, so as to avoid a possible 600 euro fine for walking at the wrong time.  However they closed at 1700 today for the May Day holiday, and will not open again until Monday

It could only happen in Spain.

We do love living here, but the administration is always a nightmare.   And never more so than today.

Friday 1 May
It was our last day of power walking around the swimming pool area and up and down the stairs.  We do it twice a day, and it takes about 20 minutes each time.   We can walk outside the house from tomorrow, so no more “hamster walking” for us

It was quite hard going today, because the summer has finally arrived.   And even these walks are more difficult in 28c.   No complaints, it’s lovely to be able to have our breakfast on the naya in our shirt sleeves.

And as a special treat we had fish and chips, and mushy peas, from one of our local restaurants tonight.   Victoria has introduced take away meals since they had to close because of lockdown.   They offer a delivery service for an extra 5 euro, or you can order and collect from the door.   Not sure if that is legal at present, but one of our neighbours does it regularly and offered to collect them for us.   It is the first time we have had a take away in Spain, and it was a great treat.
