9 March 2020 – Pinos Fossil

Most local walkers would know this walk as Marnes valley
When David and I did a recce many years ago, we found a fossil on the track
The track is difficult in parts and looking for fossils makes looking at your feet easier
First prize today went to Toon for this magnificent specimen

No rain today, but it was cloudy with a cold wind
So we made good time to our banana stop at the abandoned finca
We had been warned that part of the track had been destroyed
A hotel had extended their ground and built a solar panel farm over the track

Fortunately Nick Biggs has warned me, and also gave me a satnav of the alternative route
We arrived at our usual picnic site about 15 minutes later than usual
It was still overcast, but quite warm as the wind had dropped
The rest of the route was the same as before
The sky cleared after lunch and the sun made an appearance
Coupled with an easy path and good views of Bernia
Lots of chat resulted in my missing a minor junction

But quickly realised and found the correct path with only a few comments
They quite like it when I make a mistake
As usual the donkey’s were waiting for us
Part of the narrow track in the valley is badly overgrown
Very enjoyable walk, and an equally enjoyable drink in the bar

Stats
Time taken – 5 hours
Distance – 8 km
Total Ascent – 330 metres
