12 March 2020 – Castells Rock Arch

15 of us met in Castells car park on a warm, sunny morning
Little did we know that this would be our last walk for at least two weeks
The Coronavirus was far from our thoughts as we left Castells
Within 48 hours Spain would have declared a national emergency
Valencia would have closed all bars, restaurants and beaches
Jalon Valley U3A would have told all groups to close for at least two weeks
And we would have suspended both our Monday and Thursday walks
But that was all 48 hours in the future
We were about to experience one of our most enjoyable walks
Most of the group had done this walk before
And all were looking forward to doing it again
About half did the optional final leg to the arch
The rest had an extended lunch break at our planned picnic area
And who could blame them with a view like this

The walk back to Castells is downhill
It was more of a stroll than a serious walk
But none the less enjoyable for that
On a warm afternoon it gave us a good thirst
And made the bar stop all the more welcome
A lovely last walk before the enforced break
Stats
Time taken – 5.5 hours
Distance – 13 km
Total Ascent – 450 metres

We shall miss our Monday and Thursday walks
But the important thing is that everyone keeps safe and well
Hope that it is not long before we can all meet again
To continue to enjoy exploring this beautiful part of Spain
