17 February 2020 – Bernia Forat

This is normally a Thursday walk, but we had been asked to do it by the Monday group
Most had not done it before and were quite excited at the prospect
Even the initial climb did not dampen their spirits
Our first stop was this natural viewing platform

The heavy fog along the coast provided some fun trying to identify landmarks
Then a further scramble

And a short break at the entrance to the forat
We had warned everyone that it was narrow and low
But all managed ok, some even wanted to do it again
Then this spectacular view as you leave the forat
The heavy coastal fog, with only the tops of mountains visible, was like looking down from an airplane

The bright sunshine we were enjoying made it all the more unreal
This is Sierra Helada from Albir to Benidorm, even the high rise hotels of the latter hidden by the thick fog.
However we enjoyed blue skies and warm sun for our walk
But we did need the shade of this well placed tree for our picnic lunch
Most checked their mobile phones, David checked his paracetamol
Jose wisely checked the view
The next section was hot and tiring
Not least the final scramble
To a well deserved break at the fort
We have done this walk many times, but this was one of the most enjoyable.
Thanks to the weather and great company
