We almost cancelled the walk due to heavy rain at the start
Anneke and Toon decided to return to Denia
The rest of us went for to Claudia’s bar for a coffee
Within half an hour the rain had stopped
It was dry throughout the walk, and sunny with clear skies within an hour
Tina joined us for her first walk with the group
Nice easy walk to recover from Christmas overeating and drinking.
Stats
Time taken – 4 hours
Distance – 10 km
Total Ascent – 90 metres
Temperature – 7-12c
Lovely clear morning, though a little cold at the start
It is a stiff climb right from the start
So everyone was pleased to reach the banana stop
By then we were all warmed up, and the sun was shinning
The second half is easier, and we could stop more often
Everyone reached the top without any problem
The views from the aerials are quite spectacular
As they are on the short ridge walk to our picnic site
Fortunately we had the sun, as it is quite exposed
This is a favourite spot for a photograph
Which Toon and Anneke took advantage of
Julian brought home made stollen, which was a nice treat
It was nice to see Anneke and Toon on their first walk since lockdown
It is special to her, it was her first walk with us in November 2015
The return journey is downhill on good paths
And we have a short break to enjoy the views
On such a lovely day it was hard to believe it was almost Christmas
We had our after walk drinks in the sunny courtyard of Bar Tormos
Happy Christmas to all of our relatives and friends (walking or otherwise)

Time taken – 4.5 hours

We had planned to do this walk three weeks ago
First we had to cancel due to wet weather
Then we had to cancel all walks for two weeks due to illness
We almost had to cancel again today
All week the forecast was overcast with rain
But two days ago it lost the rain in the forecast
So we kept our fingers crossed and went ahead
Unfortunately Roger, who asked us to do this walk, missed it due to trip to UK
Another five cancelled just before the walk
So 7 of us turned up on a cold and overcast morning
As we prepared to start the walk we wondered if we should have cancelled again
But within an hour the sky had started to clear and the sun appeared.
The first part of the walk was wet and very slippery
But the ground had dried long before our banana break
It was so pleasant at our picnic spot that no one wanted
to leave
The difficult going during the first part of the walk
added an hour to the time
It was a tired, but very happy, group who finally got back to the cars
Time taken – 5.5 hours
Distance – 10 km
Temperature – 8-14c
Total Ascent – 350 metres
Great to be out walking again after two weeks off due to illness
Our doctor thinks it was side effects of our recent flu
jabs
It was appropriate that our first walk was also our 52nd
wedding anniversary
Walking has always been an important part of our leisure
time
And never more so than since we retired to Spain in 2006
It has been a difficult year in many ways
But our regular twice weekly walks has done more than anything else to make it bearable
Both groups have lost many members since shut down
But we have managed to keep going with reduced numbers
Sometimes as a result of coronavirus restrictions
Sometimes because so few of the group wanted to meet to walk
So we are very grateful of the faithful few who have turned up week after week
And encouraged that we could welcome so many positive and friendly new members to both groups
